skzi gorky

György Zentai also known as “Gorky” can be proud of his many achievements in the Hungarian Starcraft and Command & Conquer scene. If someone he really knows what is the deal with real time strategy games so GreatBox.web4.hu made an interview with him where they asked a lot about “Starcraft 2 – Wings of Liberty“!

SLaWTeR: Welcome Gorky. You were amongst the first ones who bought Starcraft II. You probably seen and heard a lot of information about it but tell me what were the first impressions when you actually seen it. Did you buy the standard or the collectors edition?

Gorky: The fact that the game is going to be released not exactly made me waiting for it because I were able to play with the beta version months before Blizzard has announced the official release date. I have managed to get an original copy of the game on the day of release on the 27th. There were an event in Allee organised by 576Kbyte where I got an invitation for. I had to play one on ones with the public and whoever managed to achieve victory over me has given an original Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty Collectors Edition. On this event I received one as well despite the fact I was never too eager to get the collectors pack. I were not complaining though. : )

skzi_sc2_iview

SLaWTeR: Did you start with the Campaign or straight away dived in to multi player? And if the campaing have you finished it?

Gorky: I am not too much of a single campaign player. I rather get started with the multi player. I just prefer the human vs human games as compared to play against a computer. However I started it after a while and now I am at the 10th mission on brutal difficulty where I got bored with it and started the multi player bit.

SLaWTeR: What is your opinion on the fact that we can only play as Terran apart from the four Protoss missions?

Gorky: As far as I know there will be two additional part of Starcraft 2 one for Protoss and one for the Zerg. As a player who has not yet finished the campaign I would really not say anything about it just yet but I am sure for those who are really interested in the history of Starcraft 2 Blizzard are able to provide the perfect environment and gameplay throughout the campaign.

SLaWTeR: What about the modified Battlenet? Would not you like more that if you could create more than just one account for an example?

Gorky: During the beta period I had some difficulties with the new chat system but as I used I got used to it. I am sure that there will be some major and minor changes which will make it more user friendly eventually. The fact that you can only register a single account has its pros and contras. There will be less false name and it will be more easier to filter the ones who do cheat. On the contrary if you would like to join a new team you can not change your account name or if someone did not register on the name what he really wanted. I am sure that there will be a solution for these and Blizzard will enable multiple accounts. Also there are some news that there will be an option for create and join in teams within BattleNet.

SLaWTeR: Do you think that the new BattleNet 2.0 will be able to add for the whole so that the casual players will not be saying goodbye for the multi player after one or two serious defeat?

Gorky: I think that Starcraft is based on the multi player mode. Obviously there are good and bad things about the new BattleNet but I am confident to believe that Blizzard knows his abilities and I believe that they made it this way on purpose. : )

SLaWTeR: There are modifications in the game. Have you changed your good old strategies? Are you experimenting with some new ones?

Gorky: The strategies in Starcraft and Starcraft Ii are completely different because there are many new units. The basic units gather the resources in a different way and however the basic structure of the game has not changed we can not compare this version of the game to Starcraft. I played relatively lot with the beta and because tha game has not changed too much since the beta has been shut there are some strategies which can be still applied. These strategies of course are always changing in a such a fresh game like this in the first one or two years.

SLaWTeR: Do not you think that the new units and modifications has changed that perfect balance of Starcraft? Many say that the Zerg are weak…

Gorky: Naturally the balance has changed quite a lot but keep in mind that the first Starcraft needed more than 10 years to get to state where it is now. On the opposite a new game simply can not be that well balanced. However Blizzard made a pretty good job with it and there will be a lot of patch what all will help the game to be balanced out. My personal opinion is that the Zerg is the most powerful race at the moment so I am surprised that the public thinks that they are the weakest.

SLaWTeR: Does it matter for you that now you can enjoy Starcraft in a 3D environment? Do not you like it more that the 2D version?

Gorky: I like the 2D version more. Let me rephrase this. I liked it more because the more simple graphics. It was much easier to see and understand battles. The 3D version of Starcraft II obviously has an amazing and beautiful graphic but this not really means that much as it means for the other players.

SLaWTeR: 12 years. Do you think that it was worth it to wait for the game or did you expect a bit more? Many say that Starcraft II is the game of the year others say that it is only 3D and there is nothing new in it. Do you think that it got overreach its predecessor or stay behind? Sorry it is a cheeky question but needed to be asked.

Gorky: I think that we can expect the same results as we had with Starcraft. When I first seen the game at the beginning of the beta I was with a very negative opinion about it. I thought that most of the ideas are nicked from Starcraft with Warcraft III an Command & Conquer which is probably true but it is really well made and I believe that it will be a success big time!

SLaWTeR: And at the end the usual question: What do you have to say for those who have not tried Starcraft does it worth it to start with the new one?

Gorky:
I suggest the game for those who liked the first Starcraft and for those who enjoy good strategy games. And as I mentioned above the campaign is well worth a good go on.

Thank you for the interview and good game!
We would also like to say thank you for SLaWTeR at GreatBox.web4.hu for allowing us to publicise the interview!

Blizzard Entertainment’s partner GomTV revealed plans for an easily accessible worldwide league called the “Global StarCraft II League” (GSL). GomTV is planning on having monthly tournaments culminating in a main tournament and world championships for both the GSL 2010 and GSL 2011. Also, using GomTV’s global broadcasting service, everyone around the world will be able to watch the league live through the Internet or via smart phones.

The GSL will be held every month starting with an Open Starcraft II League with a total prize pool of 200,000,000 won (approximately 170,000 USD). GomTV will broadcast the games 5 days a week, which is more than the current StarCraft leagues that are broadcasted 1~2 times a week. This way, more players and viewers will be able to enjoy the league. Also, GSL will incorporate a system based on points to promote a healthy competition. There will be a final event at the end of the year to determine the true champion and finish up the league.
